The Voyah Taishan X8 crossover has become one of the most illustrative examples of how a car is gradually transforming into a digital device.
The model is developed with Huawei’s active participation, and the key element here is not so much the powertrain as the software architecture and level of integration with external services.
The car is offered in two versions: fully electric and hybrid (PHEV).
The EV version is equipped with a battery of around 90–100 kWh, providing a range of approximately 600–700 km.The hybrid version combines a 1.5–2.0 L engine with an electric motor, allowing a total range of more than 1,000–1,100 km.
Power figures are at the level of modern premium crossovers. Depending on the trim, output ranges from 350 to 500 HP, with more than 600 Nm of torque. This allows the car to accelerate from 0–100 km/h in 4.5–6 seconds. Maximum speed is electronically limited to around 200 km/h.
The use of an 800-volt architecture provides a significant advantage in charging speed. When connected to high-power charging stations (up to 300–350 kW), the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in 20–25 minutes. This places the model among the best in the segment and makes it suitable for long-distance travel.
A central feature is the HarmonyOS operating system. It combines multimedia functions, navigation, climate control, and interaction with external devices. The system supports synchronization with smartphones, smartwatches, and smart home devices. Effectively, the car becomes part of a unified ecosystem where the user can control various devices through a single interface.
Inside, the car features a wide 15–20-inch display, a digital instrument cluster, and a head-up display. Control is carried out mainly through a touchscreen interface and voice commands. Physical buttons are minimized.
Special attention is paid to safety systems and driver assistance features. A range of sensors is used, including cameras, LiDAR sensors, and radar. This enables functions such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, automatic braking, and semi-autonomous highway driving.
From a market perspective, the Voyah Taishan X8 is aimed at the midsize premium SUV segment. The expected price ranges from $40,000 to $60,000. At the same time, the level of technology in the car competes with more expensive European counterparts.
