Denza, BYD’s premium brand, has released the first official images of the new Z9S sedan, showcasing a fresh Dawn Purple exterior color and confirming the model’s production-ready design. At the same time, regulatory filings and technical documents have revealed key details about its dimensions, powertrain options, and a claimed driving range of up to 920 km (CLTC).
The official photos present the Z9S in its new Dawn Purple paint finish. Denza describes the model as a “premium intelligent technology sedan”, positioning it between large luxury sedans and sport-oriented electric vehicles.
Although the Z9S joins Denza’s growing sedan lineup, it is not simply a smaller version of the existing Z9. The new model measures 5,090 mm in length with a 3,025 mm wheelbase, making it 145 mm shorter overall and 100 mm shorter in wheelbase than the current Denza Z9.
According to filings published by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the Z9S will initially be offered in at least two single-motor variants. The entry-level version uses a rear-mounted permanent-magnet synchronous motor produced by Zhengzhou BYD Auto, delivering 320 kW of peak power and 160 kW of rated output. The vehicle has a gross weight of 2,700 kg and rides on 19-inch wheels fitted with 245/50 R19 front and 275/45 R19 rear tires. Top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h, highlighting the sedan’s performance-oriented character despite its focus on long-range capability.
A more powerful rear-wheel-drive variant increases peak output to 370 kW (496 hp). Both single-motor versions are equipped with a 102.3 kWh battery pack and offer a claimed CLTC range of up to 920 km. The two variants differ not only in power output but also in battery sourcing: the entry-level model uses cells supplied by Hefei BYD and assembled by Shanwei FinDreams Battery, while the higher-output version features cells from Wuwei FinDreams and battery assembly by Shenzhen BYD Auto Industry.
Documentation also references a tri-motor flagship variant producing a combined 890 kW (1,194 hp) and offering a claimed CLTC range of 780 km. However, currently available MIIT extracts do not link this configuration as clearly as they do the two single-motor versions, leaving some uncertainty regarding the final lineup structure.
Denza continues to expand its sedan portfolio amid strong demand for its existing models. According to China EV DataTracker, the brand sold 6,952 units of the Denza D9 and 6,025 units of the Denza Z9 GT in June 2026. These figures apply to currently available models and do not include the upcoming Z9S.
Several technical details remain undisclosed, but the production model is expected to feature BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery technology and the God’s Eye B advanced driver-assistance system.
