Parking revolution in Washington: EV charging stations installed along sidewalks

The rapid growth of electric vehicles in large cities often comes down to a simple challenge: where to charge a car if the owner does not have a private garage. In Washington, D.C., city authorities have decided to test a new type of charging infrastructure that could partially solve this issue.

The project involves installing EV charging stations directly at standard street parking spaces along sidewalks. The design is compact and does not take up much space. Drivers can simply park their vehicles and connect them to the charger in the same way homeowners use private charging stations.

This format is primarily designed for residents of apartment buildings. In many dense urban neighborhoods, people do not have the option to install private charging equipment. As a result, public street infrastructure is becoming a crucial element in the development of electric mobility.

During the development of the project, engineers had to carefully consider the challenges of the urban environment. The charging units must be resistant to weather conditions, protected from potential damage, and safe for pedestrians.
