Chinese automaker Dongfeng is officially preparing for the premiere of the new flagship crossover, the Yipai M8. The main feature of the model will be deep integration of Huawei technologies, including the Qiankun ADS 5 platform and the signature HarmonyOS operating system. The company is targeting the family segment while simultaneously trying to bring the Yipai brand into a more expensive category.
The car is a large six-seat SUV with an emphasis on comfort and digital features. According to preliminary data, the body length will exceed 5 meters, while the wheelbase will be around 3.1 meters. These specifications allow it to compete with the Li Auto L9, Aito M9 and other premium Chinese crossovers.
The main technological element will be the Huawei Qiankun ADS 5 system. It is responsible for intelligent driving functions, automatic lane keeping, adaptive cruise control and an advanced collision avoidance system. The package includes LiDAR, cameras and high-precision sensors. According to Chinese media, the M8 will become one of the first cars in the world to receive Huawei’s new fifth-generation systems.
The interior will feature the new-generation HarmonyOS. The system provides integration between the car, smartphones, tablets and Huawei smart-home devices. Users will be able to remotely access vehicle functions, synchronize navigation and use a voice assistant. For Chinese buyers, this kind of integration is becoming one of the key advantages over traditional brands.
Technically, several versions are expected. The company is preparing both a fully electric and an extended-range version. In similar models, Dongfeng already uses batteries larger than 80 kWh and offers more than 600 km of range on the CLTC cycle. Hybrid modifications are expected to provide more than 1300 km of range.
The Yipai M8’s design is made in a modern minimalist style. The car received a closed front end, narrow headlights and a massive body with an emphasis on aerodynamics. At the same time, the interior is oriented primarily toward family use: separate second-row seats, a huge number of USB ports and multimedia screens for passengers.
Dongfeng actively cooperates with some of the world’s biggest suppliers. The M8 is already confirmed to use components from CATL, Bosch, ZF and Fuyao Glass. This means that the manufacturer is trying to bring the car’s quality to the level of global brands.
The crossover’s premiere is expected in the coming months. For Dongfeng, this is one of the most important models of recent years, as the company is expected to strengthen its position in the premium intelligent SUV segment. Against the background of the rapid growth of intelligent Chinese vehicles, cooperation with Huawei is effectively becoming a must-have condition for many manufacturers to remain competitive.
