Chinese automaker BYD has finalized its European expansion strategy by officially announcing pricing and specifications for the Dolphin G DM-i plug-in hybrid hatchback. The model is the first BYD vehicle developed specifically with European customers, regulations, and driving conditions in mind.
Production for the European market will take place at BYD’s new manufacturing facility in Szeged, Hungary, with the first customer deliveries scheduled for autumn 2026. In Germany, prices will start at €28,990 (approximately $33,550) before incentives. With available government subsidies and manufacturer discounts applied, the effective purchase price could drop to as low as €18,990. For comparison, the Cupra Leon e-Hybrid starts at around €49,620 in a comparable
specification.
The Dolphin G DM-i is more compact than the fully electric Dolphin. It measures 4,160 mm in length, 1,825 mm in width, and 1,575 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,610 mm. Cargo capacity ranges from 425 liters to 1,225 liters with the rear seats folded down. Inside, the cabin features an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster and a rotating central touchscreen measuring either 10.1 or 12.8 inches, depending on trim level.
